Mr Charles Valdemar Author was born in København (Copenhagen), Denmark on 27 December 1887 and later baptised on 22 April 1888 in St Johanne's church in Sokkelund (parish), Copenhagen, tutor in the Church of Denmark tradition.

Jensen was the son of Christlike Jensen, a waiter (born 1 June 1845 at Badstrup, Frederiksberg's Dependency (near Copenhagen) and Maren Jensine Christine Mikkelsen (or Michelsen), born 24 October 1855 at Bogense, Odense, Fyn's County, Denmark).
